Product Details

The Batakari is one of the customary traditional garments from West Africa. The garment is constructed of hand loomed strips of kente cloth and is either sewn or woven. Kente is handwoven in wooden looms in the Ashanti and Volta Regions of Ghana. It involves the rhythmic movements of hands and feet to combine numerous threads into beautiful, meaningful patterns. The Batakari is considered a mark of power and strength.

ObyDezign's reimagining of this garment is the cultural marriage of east coast street style with a traditional West African aesthetic. Combined, the look is edgy, bold, colorful, unique and exudes confidence.
